Levoit Core 300S-P air purifier - for smells that spread past the kitchen
If you have an open-plan kitchen and dinner still reaches the couch an hour later, the range hood has done what it can. The smell that escaped is now in the rest of the room, and that's where a purifier with a carbon layer earns its place. Charcoal bags and sprays work in the kitchen itself. This works in the space the smell travels to.
Why it suits cooking smells
It has two filter stages that do different jobs. The main HEPA-grade filter catches the fine grease and smoke particles that frying puts into the air, and the activated carbon layer absorbs the odor compounds. A purifier needs both: particle filters do little for smell, and carbon alone won't catch the grease mist.
AHAM has verified its clean air delivery rate at 141 CFM for smoke, 156 for dust and 175 for pollen. Using AHAM's two-thirds rule, that suits a room of roughly 210 sq ft. In a bigger open-plan space it will still help, but more slowly.
Where to put it

Smart features
It has a PM2.5 sensor and auto mode, so it speeds up when cooking fumes reach it and slows down once the air clears. You can also control it from the VeSync app or with Alexa or Google Assistant. Sleep mode runs as quietly as 22 dB and turns the display off.
Running costs

Alternatives
If the smell isn't leaving the kitchen in the first place, fix the source before buying a purifier.
