Glocusent clip-on book light - amber mode for reading in bed, about $13
The Glocusent clip-on is a tiny rechargeable book light that's well suited to reading in bed next to someone who's asleep. It costs about $13 and has a 4.7-star average from roughly 28,700 reviews on Amazon.
What you get
There are three color modes: amber (1800K), a warm-neutral "breeze" mode (3400K) and a cool 6000K mode. Glocusent says the amber mode filters 99.9% of blue light. Five brightness levels let you take it down to a soft glow. Five LEDs spread the light across the page.
The clamp opens up to 150 degrees, wide enough for thick hardbacks, and the head turns 90 degrees left or right and 45 degrees down. Glocusent warns against twisting it past 90 degrees because there's a wire inside. It weighs 1.41 oz.
The 500mAh battery is rated at 10 to 80 hours depending on brightness. Glocusent estimates 20 days to three months at 30 minutes of reading a night. It charges from any USB-A port, has four battery indicator lights and comes with a 24-month warranty.
Who it's for
- Anyone reading in bed next to a sleeping partner
- Readers who want a true amber setting for the last part of the evening
- People replacing late-night scrolling with a book
Who should skip it
If you read big hardbacks or want both hands free for knitting, the Glocusent neck light is the better fit. If you want the biggest battery and smooth dimming, look at the Gritin below.
Alternatives
The Gritin 9 LED costs about $10, dims smoothly from 100% to 10% and has a 1000mAh battery, but no true amber mode. The hooga amber book light is amber only, at 1600K. All four are compared in our best book light for reading in bed guide.
