Gritin 9 LED book light - stepless dimming for about $10

The Gritin 9 LED is one of the cheapest well-reviewed book lights on Amazon. It costs about $10 and has a 4.8-star average from around 56,000 reviews.

What you get

Hold the button and the brightness slides smoothly from 100% down to 10%, rather than jumping between fixed steps. Click it to switch between warm, cool white and mixed light. For reading in bed, warm on a low setting is the one to use.

The 1000mAh battery takes about 2.5 hours to charge and is rated at up to 80 hours at the lowest brightness. Four LED indicators show how much charge is left. The gooseneck bends 360 degrees, the clip has an anti-skid grip for books and e-readers, and there's a non-slip pad on the base so it can stand on a nightstand or desk. Gritin says the light is flicker-free.

Who it's for

  • Anyone trying out bedtime reading who doesn't want to spend much
  • People who want precise control over how dim the light gets
  • A spare light for travel or a kid's room

Who should skip it

There's no true amber mode. If you want the warmest possible light for late evenings, the Glocusent clip-on (1800K amber) or the hooga amber book light (1600K) fits better.

Alternatives

For hands-free reading, the Glocusent neck light hangs around your neck and has a narrow 90-degree beam. All four lights are compared in our best book light for reading in bed guide.

If you're buying a book light to replace phone time, our guides to how to stop scrolling before bed and a wind-down routine without your phone cover the habit side.
