TOOSOFt Anti Cat Scratch Furniture Protector Clear Thicken Vinyl 160"x12.4"

This is the narrower of TOOSOFt's two clear cat scratch rolls. It costs about $22 and averages 4.4 stars from about 1,600 ratings.

What you get

A roll of 0.1mm clear PVC, 160 inches long (about 13 feet) and 12.4 inches wide. Adhesive on one side, smooth on the outside, so claws skid off and you can still sit on the couch normally. TOOSOFt says the adhesive is stronger than standard fabric protectors and removes without residue.

The width is the reason to pick this one over the bigger roll. Many couch arm faces are around a foot wide, so you can run a strip along the arm without trimming. Fewer cut edges means fewer places for the film to peel. The length is enough for both arms with film left for a cushion front or a door frame.

Who it's for

• Fabric couches where the arms take most of the damage
• Loveseats, armchairs and dining chairs
• Anyone who wants protection that's hard to see on light and mid-tone fabric

Who should skip it

Leather and faux leather owners; TOOSOFt says not to use it on either. If your cat has gone after whole panels, the wider roll is better value. If your cat rips thin film, go thicker.

Application tips

Lint-roll the arm first, since cat hair under adhesive is the main reason film won't stick. Cut separate pieces for the top, front and side of a rolled arm rather than bending one piece around it. Press every edge with a credit card. More in our couch arm guide.

Alternatives

The bigger TOOSOFt 196.9 x 16.5 in roll covers whole panels. The QianShouYan roll is slightly thicker at 0.15mm and a bit cheaper. See how film compares to shields and sisal in our cat couch protector guide.
