Everlasting Comfort under-door draft stopper - keep cooking smells in the kitchen

Shutting the kitchen door is the cheapest way to keep cooking smells out of the rest of the house. The catch is the gap at the bottom. Warm, smelly air slips out underneath, and you still get dinner in the hallway. This stopper fills that gap.

How it works

It's a two-sided polyester sleeve with thick foam strips inside. You cut the foam to length, slide it into the sleeve, and push the whole thing under the door so one side sits against each face. It moves with the door when you open and close it. There's no drilling, tape or tacks, which makes it renter-friendly.

The listing says it slides over tile, hardwood, vinyl and low-pile carpet. It's sized for doors 30 to 36 inches wide.

Measure before you buy

Everlasting Comfort says to measure both the door width and the gap under it before ordering. A gap that's too small makes the door hard to open. One that's too big leaves air getting past. Take two minutes with a tape measure first.

What else it does

The same foam reduces noise and light coming under the door, and it cuts drafts in winter and keeps conditioned air in during summer. Those are side benefits here, but they're real reasons people buy it.

Who should skip it

  • Open-plan kitchens. There's no door to seal. A carbon-filter purifier in the living area, like the Levoit Core 300S-P, is the more relevant fix.
  • Doors wider than 36 inches or over thick carpet. It's not sized for them.
  • Smell escaping another way. If cooking smell gets out over the top of the door or through a pass-through, sealing the bottom won't stop it.

How it compares

Adhesive door sweeps are cheaper and permanent, but they stick to the door and can leave marks. This one slides off with nothing left behind, which is why renters tend to pick it.

If some smell still gets out, the Moso Natural 4-pack works well alongside it. Put a bag in the hallway and one on the landing to absorb what escapes.

It has 4.3 stars from over 10,000 Amazon reviews. Our guide on stopping cooking smells going upstairs puts door sealing near the top of the list, and the main cooking smells guide covers the full approach. For why smells travel at all, see why your house smells after cooking.
