Franklin X-40 outdoor pickleballs, 100-pack - club stock at about $1.80 a ball

A hundred Franklin X-40s in one order. At about $180 on Amazon that's roughly $1.80 a ball, the lowest per-ball price for this ball in any pack. The X-40 listing has a 4.7-star average from about 26,000 ratings across its pack sizes.

Who actually needs 100 balls

Clubs, coaches, rec departments, HOA courts and anyone running clinics or league nights. If balls go out to players at the start of a session and some don't come back, or you want to retire cracked balls without thinking about it, this is the pack.

For a household or a regular foursome, 100 is far too many. The optic yellow 12-pack covers that at about $2.42 a ball.

The ball is the same one-piece, 40-hole outdoor X-40 that's in the smaller packs: 26 g, 74 mm, USA Pickleball approved, and listed by Franklin as the official ball of the US Open Pickleball Championships, USA Pickleball and the APP Tour. At sanctioned events the tournament director picks the ball, so check with organizers if you're stocking up for a specific tournament.

The math against 12-packs

Buying 100 balls in yellow 12-packs at today's prices would cost about $240. The 100-pack saves roughly 62 cents a ball, or about $60 per hundred. A club that goes through a few hundred balls a season saves a fair bit.

What our price tracking shows

Over three years this pack usually sold for about $204, or $2.04 a ball, so today's $179.99 is already below normal. It has gone as high as $259.99. The lowest we recorded was $99.92 in April 2025, about $1 a ball.

It spent about 18% of days at 10% or more below its usual price. Prime Day 2024 and the October 2024 deal days brought cuts of about 7% and 9%. Across the pickleball balls we track, March through August have been cheaper than fall, with October the most expensive month, which suits a club restocking in spring.

Storage

The listing weight is about 6.5 lb. A case this size often ends up in a shed or a car trunk, and hard outdoor plastic gets brittle in cold weather. Franklin itself says the X-40 performs best "in average temperatures." Our guide to pickleball balls in cold weather has tips on storage and rotation.
