Best Kids' Cuddle Chairs UK 2026: Snuggle Seats for Toddlers and Children

The best kids' cuddle chair for most families is the rucomfy Snuggle Kids Bean Bag Chair, about £42 when we checked. It's a 50 x 60 x 60cm beanbag armchair made in Lancashire, it arrives already filled, and the cover goes in a 30-degree wash. For a foam seat that holds its shape, the BEJOY Kids Sofa is about £50 and a little bigger.

Sooner or later most children want a seat of their own, ideally with a clear view of the TV and out of reach of a younger sibling. What parents need is a chair sized for the child's age, with a cover that comes off for washing, again and again.

Our main best cuddle chairs guide covers adult chairs and includes these two. This page goes further into choosing for a child.

1. rucomfy Snuggle Kids Bean Bag Chair: Best Overall Kids Chair

Best for: toddlers and younger children who want a proper little armchair Avoid if: your child is six or older, or tall for their age

rucomfy has been making beanbags in Lancashire for nearly 40 years and is a member of Made in Britain. The company says every component, from the thread to the beads, is sourced in the UK, and each order is made in its own factory. For a child's chair, buying from a manufacturer you can actually trace is worth something.

The Snuggle is shaped like an armchair rather than a sack: a high back and a wide seat, with beans that mould around the child. It's 50 x 60 x 60cm and arrives filled, so there's nothing to set up. The zips sit on the inside of the cover, which makes it hard for a curious toddler to open the bag and empty beads across the carpet. The cover comes off and washes at 30 degrees.

It comes in printed designs, including an Under the Sea pattern, and has 4.4 stars on Amazon UK.

The trade-off with any beanbag is that the beans settle and compress over time, so expect to top it up eventually. And at 50cm wide it's sized for small children; most will outgrow it somewhere around five or six.

Pros:

  • Made in Britain by an established beanbag maker
  • Arrives filled, ready to use
  • Zips on the inside of the cover
  • Cover washes at 30 degrees
  • Cheapest chair here

Cons:

  • Beans compress and will need topping up
  • Small for children over about five
  • The listing doesn't name a specific safety standard

2. BEJOY Kids Sofa: Best Foam Kids Chair

Best for: children who want a soft seat that looks like a miniature sofa Avoid if: you want it ready to use the day it arrives

The BEJOY swaps beans for thick foam under a soft sherpa cover. It looks more like real furniture than a beanbag, and foam keeps its shape without topping up. At 63.5cm wide, 43cm deep and 52cm high it's also a little roomier than the rucomfy, which helps with older or bigger children.

It has a medium-high back, armrests BEJOY designed to resist tipping, and a carry handle so a child can move it between rooms. The cover zips off for a cold machine wash. With 4.4 stars from 471 reviews, it has the longer review record of the two.

Two things to know. It arrives vacuum-packed, and BEJOY says it takes from 24 hours to a few days to expand fully, so don't plan to unwrap it on a birthday morning and sit straight in it. And sherpa flattens on the seat with daily use, so it won't stay as fluffy as it looks in the photos. Some parents also say it runs smaller than expected.

Pros:

  • Foam holds its shape
  • A little roomier than the rucomfy
  • Zip-off cover, cold machine wash
  • Carry handle
  • 471 reviews at 4.4 stars

Cons:

  • Needs a day or more to expand
  • Sherpa flattens on the seat
  • The listing doesn't name a specific safety standard

How to choose a kids' cuddle chair

Safety labels: what to look for

Upholstered furniture sold in the UK has to pass the fire tests set by the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, which build on BS 5852. Two other standards are worth knowing:

  • EN 17191 is the European standard for children's seating. It covers stability and strength, including whether a chair tips.
  • EN 71 applies to toys. A chair sold as a play item rather than furniture falls under the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

Neither chair in this guide names a specific standard on its Amazon listing. That doesn't mean they fail one; it means the listing doesn't say. If it matters to you, ask the seller which tests the chair has passed. A specific standard number is a real answer; "meets all safety standards" is not.

Size and age

Age Seat height Width
1 to 3 15 to 25cm 40 to 50cm
3 to 6 17 to 30cm 50 to 65cm

Both chairs here sit in the 3 to 6 band, with the rucomfy at the small end. Past six or seven, kids' chairs get cramped; a compact adult tub chair, like the ones in our cuddle chairs for bedrooms guide, lasts longer. Before buying, measure your child sitting down: their feet should reach the floor or rest comfortably.

Washable covers

Every children's chair gets washed sooner or later. Insist on a cover that comes off and goes in the machine, rather than one you have to spot-clean in place. Both chairs here pass that test.

Beanbag or foam

Beans move with a child who fidgets and shifts about, but they settle and need topping up. Foam keeps its shape with no maintenance, though cheap foam flattens. Neither is better across the board; it comes down to whether you'd rather top up beans or put up with a seat that slowly softens.

Frequently Asked Questions

What safety standards should a kids' cuddle chair meet?

Upholstered furniture sold in the UK must pass the fire tests in the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, which are based on BS 5852. EN 17191 is the European standard for children's seating, and EN 71 applies if the chair is sold as a toy. Neither chair in this guide names a specific standard on its Amazon listing, so if certification matters to you, ask the seller for the test details before buying.

What age is a kids' cuddle chair suitable for?

Most kids' cuddle chairs on Amazon UK suit roughly ages 1 to 6. The rucomfy Snuggle, at 50cm wide, suits toddlers and younger children best. The BEJOY, at 63.5cm wide, gives a bit more room for children up to about 5 or 6. Past age 6 or 7, most children outgrow kids' chairs and fit better in a compact adult tub chair.

Are beanbag or foam kids' chairs easier to keep clean?

Both chairs here have removable covers that go in the washing machine, which matters more than the filling. The rucomfy cover washes at 30 degrees and the BEJOY cover takes a cold wash. Foam chairs keep their shape better over time; beanbags settle and need topping up with beads eventually.

The verdict

For a toddler or young child, the rucomfy Snuggle Kids Bean Bag Chair is the one to buy: made in Britain, filled and ready on arrival, with a washable cover and child-resistant zips. If you'd rather have foam that holds its shape and a little more room, the BEJOY Kids Sofa is the alternative. Just give it a day or two to expand.

For children over six, skip kids' chairs and look at compact adult tub chairs in our cuddle chairs for bedrooms guide. The full range is in our best cuddle chairs guide.
