Best Cuddle Chairs for Nursing UK 2026: Night Feeds & Nursery Use

Best Cuddle Chairs for Nursing UK 2026: Night Feeds & Nursery Use

A good nursing chair supports your back up to your neck, has arms around 55 to 65cm high to take your elbow, a 43 to 48cm seat you can stand up from, and room for a footstool. The INMOZATA Swivel Cuddle Chair with Footstool (about £170 when we checked) gives you width, a swivel and a footstool in one box. The Vesgantti Velvet Wingback with Stool (about £175) has the tallest back here. In a small nursery, the 60cm TILLY Patchwork (about £120) fits where the others won't. Never fall asleep holding your baby in any of them.

This is general information about furniture, not medical advice. If feeding hurts or you have questions about positioning, ask your midwife or health visitor.

The chair you use for night feeds gets more use than almost anything else you buy for a baby. In the early weeks you might spend two or three hours in it between midnight and 5am, night after night. A chair that leaves your back unsupported, your arms in the wrong place, or makes it hard to stand while holding a sleeping baby makes those hours worse.

A wide cuddle chair covers more of what you need than many chairs sold as "nursing chairs", often for less money. Below: what to look for, three Amazon UK options, and what changes if the chair is also for an elderly parent.

One safety point comes before any of the chairs. The Lullaby Trust says never fall asleep on a sofa or armchair with your baby: it significantly increases the risk of SIDS, and a baby can slip into a position where they are trapped and cannot breathe. The NHS gives the same warning. A comfortable chair at 3am makes dozing off more likely, not less, so if you feel yourself drifting, put the baby down in their cot first.

What makes a chair good for nursing

Arm height

Most nursing chair guides skip this one. When you're feeding, your elbow sits under the baby's head and needs support. The chair arm should meet your elbow when you're seated, typically 55 to 65cm from the floor. The NHS breastfeeding guidance puts the goal simply: get comfortable before a feed, use pillows or cushions if you need them, and keep your shoulders and arms relaxed. Supportive arms make that easier.

Arms that are too high push your shoulders up; too low and your arm hangs, leaving your shoulder holding the baby's weight. Few Amazon listings give arm height, so estimate it from the photos and the overall chair height, or add a cushion.

Back support

The backrest should reach at least your shoulder blades, ideally the base of your neck, so you don't have to hold your head up when you lean back at 3am. Low, cushioned tub-chair backs look comfortable in photos but leave your upper back unsupported on a long feed.

Getting out of the chair

You need to stand up smoothly with a sleeping baby in your arms, without the chair tipping back or you having to lurch forward. That means a seat around 43 to 48cm high, a cushion you can push up from rather than one you sink into, and a stable base. A swivel helps: you can turn until your feet are under you before you rise.

Footstool

Raising your feet takes load off your lower back during long feeds. The INMOZATA and Vesgantti both come with one. If your chair doesn't, buy a separate footstool roughly level with the seat. Both sets also appear in our cuddle chair with footstool comparison.

Swivel

With a swivel you can face the cot, turn to a side table for water or your phone, and turn back for the transfer, all without standing up. At 3am with a baby who's just gone off, fewer movements is the goal.

1. INMOZATA Swivel Cuddle Chair with Footstool: Best for Nursing Overall

Price: about £169.99

The INMOZATA ticks the most boxes in one purchase: an 85cm-wide seat with room for a feeding pillow beside you, a 360-degree swivel, a matching footstool (68 x 33cm, about 38cm high), and a cup holder built into the arm for a glass of water at 4am. It's rated to 150kg.

The jumbo cord fabric is a practical choice for a nursery. Its ridges hide marks better than velvet, though it collects fluff and lint.

The catches: the set needs space. With the footstool in use it takes about 85cm x 130cm of floor, which is workable in a typical UK box room or second bedroom (8 to 10 sq m) if you plan where it goes. And INMOZATA is a young brand, founded in 2022, with only 6 Amazon UK reviews averaging 3.7 stars on this set when we checked.

Pros: Footstool and cup holder included for under £200. Wide enough for a feeding pillow. Swivel. Cord hides everyday marks. Cons: Large footprint with the footstool out. Few reviews and a young brand. Cord isn't wipe-clean.

2. Vesgantti Velvet Wingback Armchair with Stool: Best High-Back Nursing Chair

Price: about £174.99

If back and head support matter most to you, this is the one. It's a wingback 89cm tall, so the back and wings support your head when you lean back, and it comes with a lumbar pillow and a matching velvet stool for your feet. The seat is pocket-sprung with high-density foam on top rather than foam alone.

It's 74cm wide, 82cm deep and weighs 27kg, on a wooden base and legs that screw on (the parts are zipped inside the seat). With 4.7 stars from 403 reviews across its colours, it has the strongest review record of any chair in our cuddle chair guides. Colours include cream, grey, blue, green and orange velvet, plus teddy fabric versions.

Two drawbacks for a nursery. It's velvet, which shows milk marks and is harder to clean than cord, so a muslin over the arm and your lap during feeds helps. And it doesn't swivel, so turning to the cot means getting up.

Pros: Tallest back here, with wings for head support. Pocket-sprung seat. Stool and lumbar pillow included. 400+ reviews at 4.7 stars. Cons: No swivel. Velvet marks easily. 74cm wide leaves less room for a feeding pillow than the INMOZATA.

3. TILLY Patchwork Swivel Cuddle Chair: Best for Compact Nurseries

Price: about £119.99

The TILLY is for a nursery where the INMOZATA set would take over the room. It's 60cm wide and 62cm deep, so it fits next to a cot and changing unit in a box room. It swivels a full 360 degrees, assembles without tools (the backrest slots in by hand), and the seat cushion comes off for cleaning.

It has real limits for nursing. At 60cm it's a tub chair, with little room for a feeding pillow. Its 69cm height means a lower back than the other two. There's no footstool, so budget for one. And the patchwork velvet will show spills, so keep a muslin handy. It suits feeding a newborn better than an older baby who needs more room. It has 4.9 stars from 15 reviews.

Pros: 60 x 62cm fits small nurseries. Swivel. Tool-free assembly. Removable seat cushion. Cons: Narrow, with little room for a feeding pillow. Lower back than the others. No footstool. Velvet shows marks.

Cuddle chairs for elderly users: getting in and out

The features that help with nursing also help an elderly parent or anyone who finds chairs hard to get out of, especially seat height and a swivel.

Seat height: 43 to 48cm suits most adults. Lower than that and standing up gets much harder. Few Amazon listings give seat height, so ask the seller or check the product Q&A before buying.

Cushion firmness: A deep, soft cushion is comfortable to sink into but harder to push up from. That matters for anyone with weak knees or hips.

Swivel as a standing aid: Turning the seat until your feet are under you before rising is easier than leaning forward out of a fixed chair.

What to avoid: Seats lower than 40cm, very soft deep cushions, and arms too low to push up from. Enclosed barrel chairs like the DEKKETO can be awkward to get into and out of with limited mobility.

For someone who struggles a lot with standing from any chair, a purpose-built rise-and-recline chair is a better choice than a cuddle chair; those aren't sold as cuddle chairs on Amazon.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I look for in a nursing chair?

Four things matter most. Arms that meet your elbow when seated, roughly 55 to 65cm from the floor. A backrest that reaches at least your shoulder blades, ideally the base of your neck, so your head is supported on long feeds. A seat around 43 to 48cm high with a cushion firm enough to push up from. And a footstool to raise your feet. A swivel base helps too, because you can turn towards the cot or a side table without standing up.

Is a cuddle chair good for breastfeeding?

A wide cuddle chair works well for feeding because the extra width, usually 75 to 90cm, leaves room for a feeding pillow beside you. Supportive arms take the weight of your elbow, a swivel lets you reach a drink or turn to the cot without getting up, and a footstool takes strain off your lower back. Never fall asleep in the chair with your baby: the Lullaby Trust and NHS both warn against it.

Can an elderly person get in and out of a cuddle chair easily?

It depends on the chair. Look for a seat about 44 to 48cm high, since lower seats make rising harder, and a cushion that doesn't sink too far. A swivel base can help: the person can turn the seat until their feet are directly underneath them before standing. For someone who struggles a lot with standing, a purpose-built rise-and-recline chair is a better choice than a cuddle chair.
