Best Air Purifier Under $100 2026: Price-Banded Picks That Don't Disappoint

Best Air Purifier Under $100 2026: Price-Banded Picks That Don't Disappoint

The best air purifier under $100 is the Levoit Core 300-P at about $81: an AHAM-verified smoke CADR of 143, 4.8 air changes an hour in a 222 sq ft room, and a 24 dB sleep mode. The Levoit Core 200S-P (about $70) is the smart pick for rooms up to 140 sq ft. Skip anything under $50.

Cheap air purifiers have gotten a lot better. Not long ago, anything below $100 was likely to use a HEPA-type filter with mediocre particle capture. Now you can get a purifier with an independently verified AHAM CADR for about $81, and a smart, app-controlled one for about $70.

Under $100 you give up large-room coverage, sensor-driven auto mode and the quietest low settings. You still get real filtration for smaller rooms, and it's cheap to run year to year.

Our budget air purifier guide looks at value more broadly. This one goes price band by price band and picks the best option in each.

Under $50: The Reality Check

There are air purifiers for sale under $50 on Amazon. Most of them are not worth buying.

At this price you'll typically find HEPA-type filters (not True HEPA), very small room coverage (around 100-150 sq ft), noisy operation, flimsy plastic, and replacement filters that are expensive relative to the unit and sometimes impossible to find after a year.

The two partial exceptions are very small desktop units with True HEPA, designed for a desk rather than a room, and basic ionizers. Ionizers don't use replaceable filters, but they're limited to what ionization can do, with no mechanical filtration, and some give off ozone. The EPA advises avoiding air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone, and CARB's certified list is a quick way to check a cheap ionizer's ozone output.

Recommendation: There is no under-$50 pick we'd endorse for cleaning a whole room. Stretch to about $70 for a unit worth buying.

Under $75: The Sensible Entry Point

Levoit Core 200S-P — ~$70

Check price on Amazon

The Core 200S-P is the best thing you can buy for under $75. It sells for about $70 and has about 128,000 reviews at 4.6 stars.

It's a small-room purifier. Levoit says it refreshes a 140 sq ft room 4.8 times an hour. The filter is three layers: a nylon pre-filter, a HEPA-grade main filter and activated carbon. It runs as low as 27 dB, and you get the VeSync app plus Alexa and Google Assistant control.

There's no particle sensor, so no auto mode. For a small bedroom or home office, that doesn't matter much.

Specs

  • Coverage: 140 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour
  • Noise: as low as 27 dB
  • Filter: nylon pre-filter + HEPA-grade main filter + activated carbon
  • Smart: app, Alexa, Google Assistant (no sensor)

Under $100: The Full-Price Picks

1. Levoit Core 300-P — Best Under $100 Overall

Check price on Amazon

At about $81, the Core 300-P is the strongest value pick in this price band. Its AHAM Verifide CADR is 143 CFM for smoke, 153 for dust and 167 for pollen, and Levoit rates it for a 222 sq ft room at 4.8 air changes per hour. That's a bigger room than the Core 200S-P can handle. Sleep mode runs at 24 dB.

No app, no sensor, no auto mode. There's a 2/4/6/8-hour timer and a display-off button, and Levoit says to replace the filter every six to eight months. It's AHAM, ETL and CARB compliant, with about 109,000 reviews at 4.7 stars.

When to choose it: if you want clean air in a bedroom or home office up to about 220 sq ft and don't need smart features.

2. Levoit Core 200S-P — Best Smart Pick Under $100

Covered above in the under-$75 band. It's about $11 cheaper than the Core 300-P and adds app and voice control, but it's sized for a smaller room (140 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour versus 222 sq ft) and is a little louder on its lowest setting (27 dB versus 24 dB).

When to choose it: smart home users, Alexa or Google households, and anyone who wants scheduling in a small room.

3. Coway Airmega 100 — Just Over $100, With Auto Mode

Check price on Amazon

To be upfront: at about $117, the Coway Airmega 100 doesn't fit under $100. It's here because it's the next step up if you want a sensor and auto mode, which neither Levoit above has.

The AQI light shows current air quality, and auto mode adjusts the fan to match. Noise ranges from 20 dB at the lowest setting to 48 dB at the highest, so it starts quieter than either Levoit. Sleep mode turns off the lights and runs the fan at its lowest speed. There's also a timer, a filter indicator and a night light, but no app.

Its CADR (108 for smoke, 124 for dust, 112 for pollen) is lower than the Core 300-P's, so it's not the pick for a bigger room. Coway quotes up to 405 sq ft in 30 minutes and 810 sq ft in an hour. The filter stack is a pre-filter, a deodorization filter and HEPA, with a 2-year warranty. It has about 830 reviews at 4.4 stars.

When to choose it: light sleepers who want the quietest low setting and a purifier that adjusts itself, and who can spend a little over $100.

What to Watch Out For Under $100

HEPA-type claims. The under-$100 market is full of purifiers claiming HEPA performance without True HEPA filtration. Look for "True HEPA" (the EPA's definition is 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns), an H-grade (H11-H14), or better still an AHAM Verifide CADR on the listing. You can confirm a model's CADR in the AHAM Verifide directory. If none of those are there, move on.

Filter availability. Some cheap purifiers use proprietary filters that are hard to find once the unit is more than a year old. Before buying any purifier, search for its replacement filter on Amazon and check availability and price. If there's only one listing and it's from a brand you've never heard of, that's a risk.

Room size inflation. Budget purifiers often quote room coverage without saying how many air changes per hour it assumes. "Covers 1,000 sq ft" usually means cleaning the air once an hour, which is barely adequate. The Core 300-P is a good example: Levoit quotes 1,073 sq ft at one air change per hour, but 222 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour. The smaller number is the one to plan around.
