NICETOWN 100% blackout curtains with black liner - for rooms that need to be fully dark
This is NICETOWN's fully lined blackout curtain, a different product from its better-known thermal pair. Two 52 x 63 inch grey panels cost about $33. It averages 4.8 stars from around 79,000 reviews, which is a very high average for a product with that many reviews.
Why it's darker than the usual pair
Each panel has two layers of 230GSM woven polyester with a black lining built in, about 460GSM in total. NICETOWN calls it 100% blackout, and that's believable for the fabric itself. Hold a single-weave curtain up to a window and you'll usually see a glow through it. The black layer is there to stop that.
Fabric is only part of it, though. Light still comes in around the edges, over the top of the rod and through the gap where the panels meet. For a properly dark room, mount the rod wide and high and let the panels overlap in the middle. Our best blackout curtains guide explains how much overlap you need.
Sizing and hanging
Each panel is 52 inches wide, so a pair covers 104 inches. NICETOWN suggests total curtain width of 1.5 to 2 times the window width so the panels hang in folds. The silver grommets have a 1.6-inch inner diameter and fit most standard rods.
The 63-inch length suits a window over a radiator or a desk. For floor-length curtains you'd pick a longer size, and the price changes.
The catch
Hand wash or dry clean only. No machine washing, no bleach. NICETOWN says this protects the layered fabric from shrinking. In a kid's room or a house with pets, that gets annoying fast.
Who it's for
Night-shift workers who sleep in the daytime. Light sleepers woken by streetlights or early summer sunrises. Babies and toddlers who nap in the afternoon. Our blackout blinds for shift workers guide has more on making a room dark during the day.
Who should skip it
If a dim room is good enough and you'd rather wash curtains in the machine, the NICETOWN thermal insulated curtains block 85-99% of light depending on color and are machine washable. If you can't fit a rod at all, the ChrisDowa cordless roller shade mounts inside or above the window frame. You can also pair a shade with these curtains, and our guide to light blocking blinds for the bedroom covers that combination.
If light is only part of the problem, a sleep mask is a much cheaper thing to try first.
