MATBEBY Queen Size Mattress Pad - Cooling Breathable Mattress Topper, Quilted Fitted Mattress Protector, Pillow Top Mattress Cover with 8-21" Deep Pocket, Soft, Machine Washable, White, 60x80 Inches

The MATBEBY Queen Mattress Pad is a quilted, fitted pad that sits between your mattress and your sheets. It costs about $28 for a queen and has 4.5 stars from about 44,000 Amazon reviews, one of the highest ratings among mattress pads.

What it is

A quilted cover filled with polyester microfiber, with a breathable design meant to let air move and keep you from overheating. It also protects the mattress from stains and wear. The queen is 60 x 80 inches, and the elastic skirt fits mattresses up to 21 inches deep without slipping.

It's machine washable on a gentle cold cycle and can be tumble dried on low. MATBEBY says not to iron or dry clean it.

Is it a cooling pad?

Not in the way some pads are. There's no special cooling finish. What it does is give you a breathable, washable layer instead of sleeping on bare memory foam or a plastic-backed protector. For a lot of people that alone makes the bed feel less stuffy. If you want a dedicated moisture-wicking surface, the SLEEP ZONE cooling pad costs about $9 more.

Who it's for

• Anyone on a budget who wants a cooler, cleaner bed surface
• Guest rooms, dorms and RVs
• People replacing a noisy or hot plastic mattress protector

Who should skip it

People who need a softer mattress (it adds only a little cushion) and very hot sleepers who want every bit of cooling they can get. For the bigger picture, see our cooling mattress topper guide and our guide to cooling a bedroom without AC.

Alternatives

The SLEEP ZONE cooling pad has a cooling-treated top. If your bed is too firm as well as too hot, look at the Linenspa 3-inch gel topper. Pair any of them with bamboo sheets.
