Elegear double-sided cooling blanket - cool fabric on one side, cotton on the other
The Elegear Double-Sided Cooling Blanket is one of the best-selling cooling blankets on Amazon, with about 30,800 reviews at 4.4 stars. A queen costs about $50.
How it works
One side is Elegear's Arc-Chill 3.0 cooling fabric. The brand rates it at a Q-Max above 0.5. Q-Max is a lab measure of how quickly a fabric pulls heat from your skin on contact, and a higher number feels cooler to the touch. The other side is cotton, for nights when you don't want the chill.
Elegear says the cooling side lowers skin temperature by 4 to 9°F on contact. Read that as the cool feeling when you first get under it. It doesn't cool the room, and the fabric warms up as you lie there. What keeps you cooler all night is that the blanket is thin and light, so it traps much less heat than a regular comforter.
It's machine washable.
Who it's for
- Hot sleepers and people with night sweats who wake up tangled in a heavy comforter
- Summer, or year-round in a warm bedroom
- Couples where one person runs hot: get a twin-size one for that side of the bed
Who should skip it
Anyone who wants the weight and puff of a real comforter. This is a blanket. In a cold winter bedroom you'll need something on top. And if you have night sweats that soak your sheets regardless of temperature, talk to a doctor. A blanket won't fix the cause.
Alternatives
The Cozy Bliss cooling comforter adds a down-alternative fill under a cooling shell. The REST Evercool comforter is the premium pick, with a Sorona and Tencel fill.
