Sofa-Scratcher' Cat Scratching Post & Couch-Corner / Furniture Protector (Beige)

The Sofa-Scratcher is a sisal scratching panel that wraps the corner of a couch. It costs about $60 and averages 4.4 stars from about 1,300 ratings. It's handmade in the USA.

How it works

It's a contoured, sisal-covered panel on a thin, low-profile clear base. You slide the base under the couch leg, and the weight of the couch holds the panel upright against the corner. The sisal sits exactly where cats usually scratch, so they get a better surface in the same spot.

Nothing is stuck, pinned or screwed to the couch. The maker says the base must go under the couch leg for stability; it isn't designed to stand on its own.

Why it suits leather

Almost every clear cat scratch protector on Amazon says it isn't for leather or faux leather. Adhesive can mark the finish, and twist pins leave permanent holes. Because the Sofa-Scratcher only touches the floor and the couch leg, it's one of the few couch-mounted options that works for leather. It also suits rounded fabric arms where film never sits flat.

Fit

The maker says it fits most sofas but not recliners. The standard Sofa-Scratcher is shaped for wide or rounded couch corners. For square, 90-degree corners there's a separate Sofa-Scratcher Squared. Check your corner shape and leg position before ordering.

Who it's for

• Leather and faux leather couch owners
• Cats that always attack the same front corner
• People who'd rather redirect scratching than deter it

Who should skip it

Recliner owners, and couches with legs that make it awkward to slide a base under. It's also pricier than tape or film, and you'll need one per corner the cat uses.

Alternatives

A freestanding SmartCat Ultimate Scratching Post placed against the arm does a similar job. For fabric couches, combine a corner scratcher with clear sheets like the Stelucca shields. See our couch arm guide and the best cat scratch protectors roundup.
