Reusable silicone earplugs, 10 pairs - a cheap way to try in-ear plugs
This is a 10-pair pack of reusable silicone earplugs from Wayersen. It costs about $10 and has 4.2 stars from around 2,600 Amazon reviews. At that price it's the easiest way to find out whether in-ear plugs work for you before spending more.
The design
Each plug has four flexible silicone layers stacked like a little tree, with a short handle on the end. Push it in and rotate it to seat it. Pushing it further in blocks more noise, and backing it out a little blocks less, so you can adjust it for comfort. If your ear starts to feel full or sore, Wayersen suggests pressing and rotating the side of the plug to ease it.
It's one size, which the listing says fits 99% of adult ears. A travel case is included, and the 10 pairs come in different colors, so it's easy to tell yours from your partner's.
How much they block
The listing gives an SNR of 33 dB. That's the European rating, which tends to read higher than the US NRR, so this number isn't directly comparable with an NRR 22 on a US box. It's a lab result either way. Real-world blocking is lower and depends on the fit.
The listing also says something that's useful to know. These plugs reduce snoring and noisy neighbors, but you should still hear a morning alarm or a baby crying. That's how sleep earplugs should behave.
Who it's for
- First-time earplug users who don't want to spend $25 to find out
- Couples who want a shared stash
- Travelers who'd rather lose a $1 pair than a $25 one
Who should skip it
Side sleepers may find the handle presses into the pillow. If that's you, look at a lower-profile design. People with small ear canals may also struggle with a one-size plug.
Alternatives
Loop Quiet 2 cost about $25, come with four tip sizes and are designed to sit flush for side sleeping. Mack's Pillow Soft is putty that seals over the ear instead of going in, which suits people who dislike anything in the canal.
